Why should I link my SPAN Panel to my Enphase account?
SPAN designed the Remote Meter Kit to enable integration with Enphase battery systems. The Remote Meter Kit detects outages and estimates the Enphase battery’s state of energy (SoE) by observing its charging/discharging behavior to provide you a flexible backup experience.
Our expanded Enphase integration allows for direct linking of SPAN and Enphase accounts for real-time information about your battery SoE, eliminating the need for system calibration. However, the Remote Meter Kit is still a critical component of your backup system and handles immediate detection of power outages.
What authorization am I providing SPAN by connecting my Enphase account?
By connecting your SPAN Panel to your Enphase account, you are allowing SPAN to read important information about your battery SoE to ensure more predictable outage experiences and improved time remaining estimates. SPAN will not be able to change any Enphase settings or otherwise alter the system through this connection.
What happens if I choose not to connect my SPAN Panel to my Enphase account?
While it is recommended, connecting your SPAN Panel to your Enphase account is not required. SPAN will continue to estimate your SoE by observing power flows to the battery through the Remote Meter Kit.
If you find you need to calibrate your SPAN and Enphase system often, we recommend connecting your SPAN Panel to your Enphase account to ensure SPAN has the most accurate SoE information.
How do I connect my SPAN Panel to my Enphase account?
Watch this video or follow the steps below to connect your SPAN Panel to your Enphase account:
- Open your Enphase app and click the “Menu” icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. On the next screen, there will be a “System Name” listed at the top left of the screen (blurred out in our example). Note this down, as you’ll need it for step 3.
- Next, visit the Enphase web portal and log in with the same credentials you used to log into your Enphase app.
- Once logged in, you’ll be prompted to “Create access token.” Select “For commissioned gateway.” Next, enter the system name you wrote down earlier in the “Select System” field. Finally, choose the system’s serial number from the drop-down menu under “Select Gateway.”
NOTE: If you see multiple serial numbers listed after clicking “Select Gateway,” choose one from your IQ Gateway. This serial number is listed on the ‘Enphase Connection’ screen in the SPAN Home App:
- Once the “Select System” and “Select Gateway” fields are filled out, select “Create Access Token.” You’ll be brought to a new screen showing your Access token (blurred out in the below image).
Click the “Copy and close” button to copy the token to your phone’s clipboard and return to the SPAN Home App.
- In the SPAN Home App, click on the battery icon on the Flow page to navigate to the Battery screen. Scroll down to where you see “Connect Enphase,” and click the “Connect” button.
- On the “Connect Enphase” screen, paste the token into the “Enphase access token” field. Then, press the “Save” button – that’s it!
You can navigate away from this screen without disrupting the validation process, and once completed, you’ll see “Good connection. Token expires in 364 days” on the battery details screen. (Please note the app may say “Searching…” as it attempts to access the Enphase device with this token. This is normal and connection should be established after a few moments.)
What if I get an “Enphase Device Not Found” error when inputting my token?
If you get this error after inputting your token, it means that your SPAN Panel was either unable to locate an Enphase device on the local network, or that your installer has misconfigured the Enphase system’s serial number.
First, ensure your Enphase IQ Gateway and SPAN Panel are connected to the same local network:
- Check which network your SPAN Panel is connected to by opening the SPAN Home App and selecting Settings>All Settings>Internet Connection.
- Use the Enphase app to change the Gateway’s connection to this same network. There are detailed instructions on how to do this with the Enphase app here.
- After ensuring both systems are on the same network, wait a few minutes for the connection to update, then follow the instructions in the section above: How do I connect my SPAN Panel to my Enphase Account?
If the above steps do not work and the connection is still failing, it is likely that your installer has misconfigured your Enphase system. Please reach out to your SPAN Authorized installer to schedule an onsite visit to ensure the Enphase system is correctly configured in the SPAN Installer App. When properly configured, the serial number listed in the SPAN Home App>Connect to Enphase screen will match the serial number in the Enphase web portal.
If you need additional assistance, feel free to reach out to SPAN Support.
What if my token expires?
Tokens will expire after a year of use. If your token expires, please follow the steps above to receive a new one.
Why don't I see the option to connect my Enphase to SPAN?
We are working to ensure this feature is available to all SPAN owners with Enphase backup systems but at this time, it is only available to a select number of homeowners. Please keep an eye on your app as you will see the feature become available in a future update and as long as your Enphase system is properly configured with your SPAN, you'll be able to follow these steps to connect the two systems.
