What is the PG&E SAVE Program?
The PG&E SAVE Program is a unique opportunity for SPAN customers to earn up to $250 for helping reduce strain on your local electricity grid. During events, your SPAN Panel will intelligently reduce consumption based on your individual preferences. Your participation earns you money, helps keep the power on in your neighborhood, and safeguards local grid infrastructure. The program runs from May through October this year.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
This program is only available for certain SPAN and PG&E homeowners based on where you live. Eligible homeowners will be emailed an invitation to join. Once we verify your information with PG&E to confirm eligibility, we will send you an acceptance email (this may take a few weeks) so that you can accept the full terms and conditions and enroll.
How will SPAN reduce my energy consumption?
There will be approximately 10 program events between June and October where PG&E will call on participating homes to temporarily reduce electricity consumption. Your home is eligible to participate because you have a SPAN Panel, which allows you to configure and adjust your SPAN PowerUp™ priorities in the SPAN Home® App. During program events, your SPAN panel will intelligently adjust your electricity consumption according to your preferences. For example, you can prioritize your air conditioner or EV charger to reduce electricity use - it’s up to you, and you can make adjustments as needed. You will always be notified at least 24 hours before an event, so you have time to prepare.
How much will I get paid? When?
You will receive $50 when you enroll and participate in a test event in May, and can earn up to $200 more throughout the summer based on your participation in events. Maximize your earnings by letting your SPAN Panel temporarily adjust your electricity use for a couple of hours. You will receive your initial and final payment amounts in the form of a gift card by the end of the season, or December at the latest. If you decide to opt out of the program, you will receive payment for prior events you participated in within 45 days of opting out. Payment in all cases will be delivered via a digital gift card sent to the email you registered in the SPAN Home® App.
What data does SPAN share with PG&E if I join the program?
As part of this program only, SPAN will share your energy usage data (in 15-minute intervals) for the past year with PG&E and its consultant Demand Side Analytics LLC. SPAN will also share this data for the duration of the program while you are enrolled. This data sharing is necessary so that we can establish a baseline, evaluate how much energy you use throughout the program, and evaluate overall program performance.
Can I opt out if I change my mind?
Yes, you may opt out of the program before any event. If you opt out, you will forego all incentives for the remainder of the program and cannot sign back up. If you want to opt out before a particular event starts, you must do so the day before the event. You will be paid for your participation so far within 45 days of opting out.
